Degree of Comparison/Comparison Degree
Degree of Comparison/Comparison Degree dapat diartikan sebagai tingkat perbandingan.
kata kata yang digunakan dalam tingkat perbandingan dibedakan menjadi 2 pola, yaitu :
1. Pola 1
~ terdiri dari 1 suku kata. contoh : high, small, tall, big, slow, dll.
tingkat perbandingannya dibedakan menjadi 3, yaitu :
a) Tingkat sejajar/sama (...as adjective as...)
contoh :
Meggy is as beautiful as Carol.
The train runs as fastly as car.
b) Tingkat lebih/comparative (subject|to be|adjective+er|than|...)
contoh :
He is bigger than me.
the building is higher than the house.
c) Tingkat paling/superlative (subject|to be|adjective+est|(adverb))
contoh :
She is the tallest girl in this class.
Masjid Agung is the biggest mosque in this town.
~ terdiri dari 2 suku kata. contoh : easy, busy, polite, dll.
tingkat perbandingannya dibedakan menjadi 3, yaitu :
a) Tingkat sejajar/sama (...as adjective as...)
contoh :
Sina is as polite as Edward.
b) Tingkat lebih/comparative (subject|to be|more+adjective|than|...)
contoh :
He is more busy than me.
c) Tingkat paling/superlative (subject|to be|the most+adjective(adverb))
contoh :
He is the most clever student in this class.
2. Pola 2
~ terdiri dari 2 suku kata yang berakhiran dengan :
* ous : famous, nervous, curious, dll.
* ful : awful, careful, helpful, dll.
tingkat pebandingannya juga ada 3 yaitu :
a) Tingkat sejajar/sama (...as adjective as...)
contoh :
Yudith is as famous as Agelina Jolie.
b) Tingkat lebih/comparative (subject|to be|more+adjective|than|...)
contoh :
Dino is more helpful than Robby.
c) Tingkat paling/superlative (subject|to be|the most+adjective(adverb))
contoh :
Fika is the most curious student in the class.
~ terdiri dari 3 suku kata. contoh : beautiful, diligent, expensive, dll.
tingkat perbandingannya dibedakan menjadi 3, yaitu :
a) Tingkat sejajar/sama (...as adjective as...)
contoh :
Erica is as beautiful as Tessa.
b) Tingkat lebih/comparative (subject|to be|more+adjective|than|...)
contoh :
Okky is more diligent than Nuria.
c) Tingkat paling/superlative (subject|to be|the most+adjective(adverb))
contoh :
It is the most expensive meal in this restaurant.
PENGECUALIAN :
*good = baik
better = lebih baik
the best = sangat baik
*bad = buruk
worse = lebih buruk
the worst = paling buruk
*far = jauh
farther = lebih jauh untuk jarak
farthest = paling jauh untuk jarak
further = lebih jauh/lama untuk waktu
furthest = paling jauh/lama untuk waktu
